Nartiang Durga Temple is Meghalaya's best-known Hindu pilgrimage site. Meghalaya Tourism describes it as one of the state's most important Hindu sites and says the present temple stands on the site of an older temple associated with the Jaintia kingdom.
The temple is traditionally regarded by Hindus as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. Meghalaya Tourism specifically records this religious tradition.
The temple is close to the famous Nartiang Monoliths, making Nartiang an excellent combination of pilgrimage, history and cultural heritage.

Charantala Kali Temple is an important Hindu pilgrimage site in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills. The Government of Meghalaya has included the temple in tourism and pilgrimage-development projects, alongside Nartiang Shakti Peeth and other heritage destinations.
